How to use this page

Device Driver Guide does not host installers. Read the family page for the hardware you own, work out which package applies to your exact model and Windows edition, then use the official-source citation provided for that decision. A component-branded family may still require the company that built your computer or motherboard rather than Brother; follow the declared package source on the family page.

Where Brother appears in the directory

Reference coverage is recorded separately for each family in the comparison below, not as one compatibility list for this manufacturer. These labels describe the scope of the reference, not certified compatibility or continuing Windows support. Confirm the exact device or PC model, hardware revision, Windows release, and package requirements with the manufacturer before making a change.

Listed families in detail

Scanners

Brother ADS document scanners

The ADS series is Brother's dedicated document scanner family, sold to small offices that want quick two-sided capture without a full multifunction printer. Each unit ships Twain and WIA drivers so it slots into existing document software, plus Brother's own scanning tools for filing and OCR.

Scanners

Brother DCP / MFC all-in-one scan function

On a Brother DCP or MFC machine, scanning is one feature inside a combined print, copy, and often fax device. The scan driver is delivered through Brother's Full Driver and Software Package, so a bare print driver will leave scanning unavailable while everything else works.

Printers

Brother DCP Series

DCP units are Brother's multifunction printers without fax, offering print, scan, and copy for home and light-office use. They still need the full software package for scanning, since the flatbed relies on the WIA or Twain components bundled there.

Printers

Brother HL Laser Series

The HL series is Brother's single-function laser printer line, monochrome and color, favored for dependable text output in homes and small offices. These are print-only devices, so a scan module is not part of the picture and the standard driver covers them fully.

Printers

Brother MFC All-in-One Series

MFC is Brother's multifunction laser and inkjet line, combining print, scan, copy, and fax in one unit for small offices. The scan and fax paths live in the full driver and software package, so a print-only install leaves much of the machine idle.

Scanners

Brother PDS high-speed document scanners

PDS names cover professional Brother document scanners with model-specific packages and operating-system limits. Confirm the exact PDS model before claiming Twain, WIA, Isis, feeder capacity, or duplex support; install only the interface driver the product page lists for the capture application.
